Senegal is a West African country with a population of over 16 million people. The country is rapidly developing in terms of technology, and telecommunications have become a crucial sector of the economy. However, with the increasing use of mobile phones, GPS devices, and other wireless technologies, the use of signal jammers has also risen.
In Senegal, the use of signal jammers is illegal. Article 5 of Law No. 2011-01 of February 24, 2011, on electronic communications states that "the use of any equipment or device capable of jamming, disrupting, or intercepting electronic communications is prohibited." This law was put in place to ensure the security of electronic communications in the country.
The regulatory authority for telecommunications in Senegal is the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts (ARTP). ARTP is responsible for regulating and overseeing the electronic communications sector, including the provision of telecommunications services, radio frequencies, and telecommunications equipment. ARTP also ensures compliance with the law on electronic communications and can take measures to sanction offenders.
In Senegal, it is not possible to obtain legal authorization to use a signal jammer. ARTP can take measures to seize and confiscate any equipment or device capable of jamming electronic communications. Offenders risk financial penalties and criminal prosecution.
