The use of signal jammers in Jordan: laws and regulations

Jordan

Jordan is a Middle Eastern country with an emerging economy and a growing population. Technology is also highly developed there, with widespread use of mobile phones, the internet, and other electronic devices. However, the use of signal jammers is a delicate legal issue in the country.

Laws and Regulations

The use of signal jammers in Jordan is illegal according to Article 49 of the Telecommunications Law of 1995. This law aims to protect the rights of telecommunications users and ensure the efficiency of telecommunications services. Offenders can face penalties of up to three years' imprisonment and/or a fine of 3000 Jordanian dinars. Furthermore, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MoICT) has issued guidelines to prohibit the import, sale, and use of signal jammers in Jordan. These guidelines also apply to establishments that offer security and surveillance services.

Regulatory Bodies

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Jordan (TRC) is the regulatory body responsible for implementing the Telecommunications Law of 1995 and overseeing the entire telecommunications sector in Jordan. The TRC works closely with the MoICT to enforce the guidelines regarding the use of signal jammers.

Obtaining Legal Authorization

The use of signal jammers in Jordan is illegal, except for authorized security forces and government authorities. Individuals wishing to use signal jammers could contact the MoICT to request special authorization. However, it is unlikely that such authorizations will be granted as the law is very strict in this regard.
