The legal regulation of signal jammers in Sri Lanka

Laws and regulations regarding signal jammers in Sri Lanka

The use of signal jammers is illegal in Sri Lanka. The 1991 Telecommunications Act and the 2006 Telecommunications Act have specific provisions prohibiting the use of signal jammers. The regulatory bodies governing the use of signal jammers are the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. The Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission issued a circular in 2011 prohibiting the use, sale, import, and possession of signal jammers. This circular was published in accordance with Section 39 of the 2006 Telecommunications Act. The TRC has also announced that criminal and civil penalties will be imposed on offenders. It is important to note that the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology also issued a directive in 2015 banning the use of signal jammers in prisons, schools, and universities.

How to obtain legal permission to use a signal jammer in Sri Lanka?

It is not possible to obtain legal permission to use a signal jammer in Sri Lanka. The use, sale, import, and possession of signal jammers are prohibited and punishable by law. Individuals who violate signal jammer laws can be prosecuted and sentenced to imprisonment and substantial fines.
