Signal jammers in Sao Tome and Principe: laws and regulations

Sao Tome and Principe is a small island country located in the Gulf of Guinea, in Central Africa. It consists of two main islands, Sao Tome and Principe, as well as several islets. The country has a population of approximately 200,000 inhabitants and is a member of the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC).

Laws and Regulations

The use of signal jammers is illegal in Sao Tome and Principe under local legislation. Law No. 6/2006 on electronic communications, enacted in 2006, regulates the use of telecommunications equipment in the country. Article 71 of this law states that "the use, possession, sale, and distribution of any unauthorized telecommunications equipment is illegal." This includes signal jammers, which are considered unauthorized telecommunications equipment.

Regulatory Bodies

The regulatory body responsible for implementing the law on electronic communications is the National Communications Authority (ANAC). ANAC is responsible for regulating and supervising all telecommunications activities in the country. Additionally, the National Agency for Information Technology and Communication Security (ANSTIC) has also been established to regulate and supervise activities related to information technology and communication security in the country.

Obtaining Legal Authorization

Due to the illegal nature of using signal jammers in Sao Tome and Principe, it is not possible to obtain legal authorization to use a signal jammer in the country. Anyone found in possession or using a signal jammer can be prosecuted and may be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.
