Signal Jammers in Kosovo: Laws, Regulations, and Legal Permissions

Legislation and regulations regarding signal jammers

Under the Kosovo Law on Electronic Communications, it is illegal to produce, sell, import, or use signal jammers without legal authorization. The law provides severe penalties for offenders, ranging from fines to imprisonment. The Kosovo Law on Electronic Communications was adopted in 2014 and came into effect on December 31 of the same year. This law defines the rules governing electronic communications in the country and grants the Kosovo Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications (ARKEP) the power to regulate signal jammers.

ARKEP is the agency responsible for regulating the use of signal jammers in the country. ARKEP is an independent body established in 2008 to regulate electronic communications in Kosovo. ARKEP works closely with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to ensure compliance with the Kosovo Law on Electronic Communications.

Obtaining legal authorization to use a signal jammer

Anyone wishing to use a signal jammer must obtain legal authorization from ARKEP. Applications must be submitted to ARKEP and should include detailed information about the signal jammer, including its type, power, and the reason for its use. ARKEP reviews each application on a case-by-case basis and may grant or deny authorization based on the specific circumstances of each request. Applicants must also ensure that their use of the signal jammer complies with other relevant Kosovo laws, such as laws on security and data protection.
