Signal Jammers in Bangladesh: Current Laws and Regulations

Bangladesh, a country in South Asia, is known for its rich culture, delicious cuisine, and rapid economic growth. Laws and Regulations

Under the Telecommunications Regulation Act of 2001, the use, manufacture, import, and sale of signal jammers are strictly prohibited in Bangladesh. According to this law, offenders can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to three years and fined up to 10,000 Taka (approximately 100 euros). Furthermore, the government issued a directive in 2014 banning the use of signal jammers in prisons and detention centers. This directive was issued in response to the alleged use of signal jammers in prisons to prevent inmates from communicating with the outside world.

Regulatory Bodies

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is responsible for regulating and monitoring the use of signal jammers in the country. The BTRC is an independent government organization tasked with regulating electronic communications, including telecommunications, radiocommunications, and broadcasting.

Obtaining Legal Authorization

As mentioned earlier, the use of signal jammers is strictly prohibited in Bangladesh, except in very limited circumstances, such as their use by specially authorized security forces for security operations. In such cases, special authorization must be obtained from the BTRC before the signal jammer can be used.
