Regulation of Signal Jammers in Costa Rica

Located in Central America, Costa Rica is a country with a population of approximately 5 million inhabitants. The country is famous for its beaches, national parks, and tropical forests. In terms of legislation, Costa Rica has adopted laws and regulations to govern the use of communication technologies, including signal jammers.

Regulation of Signal Jammers in Costa Rica

The use of signal jammers is illegal in Costa Rica under the Telecommunications Law No. 8642 of 2008. This law prohibits the importation, sale, possession, and use of signal jammers in the country. The law also states that anyone who violates these provisions will be subject to criminal and civil penalties.

Regulatory Bodies

The regulatory bodies governing the use of signal jammers are the Ministry of Science and Technology (MICITT) and the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP). MICITT is responsible for regulating telecommunications and information technologies, while ARESEP is responsible for regulating public services, including telecommunications.

Obtaining Legal Authorization for the Use of Signal Jammers

It is not possible to obtain legal authorization to use a signal jammer in Costa Rica. In fact, the Telecommunications Law expressly prohibits the use of signal jammers, without any exceptions for businesses or individuals. Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal and civil proceedings.
